Disable multi-message SMS messaging

If an SMS message is sent containing more than 160 characters (including spaces), it is a multi-part message SMS. Each message then has a maximum of 153 characters due to seven characters being needed to facilitate re-joining of the message on delivery. Each SMS will attract its own per SMS charge. To prevent messages of more than 160 characters from being sent via your GoFax account, you can enable the 'Disable multi-message SMS messaging' feature. To turn this "on", tick and select "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

Send Email to SMS messages using the subject rather than the message body

If your email automatically adds a signature, disclaimer or other information to the end of the body of every email, when using the email-to-SMS feature, GoFax receives all content within the email and will include it in the SMS message attempted; this may push the character count (including spaces) over 160 characters and break the message up into multiple messages (attracting higher SMS sending costs). When activated, GoFax will only check an email’s subject line for SMS message content and ignore the email body. This "off" by default. To turn this feature "on", tick this option and select "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

Send automated alert for SMS messages that are not delivered within 10 minutes

While SMS is a rapid medium, it is still subject to congestion at the carrier level and will only be marked as successful once delivered to the destination mobile number’s handset (which may be switched off or out of range of a base station). For optional additional alerts, GoFax can notify the SMS sender via email if the message is not successfully delivered within ten (10) minutes of the original SMS delivery attempt. This is "off" by default. To turn this feature "on", tick this option and select "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

Push URL for notifications of SMS delivery

Push URL for notifications of SMS delivery (aka Callback URL) is an option that allows a URL  to  be  entered and  the  URL  is  sends a notification to an endpoint.    Once  this  field  has a Push URL configured,  the  Push  URL  will  get  sent  automatically  after the SMS  has  been  processed. To turn this feature "on", enter your Push URL and select "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

The URL is pushed regardless of the delivery status (i.e. delivery status of the SMS -  ‘Complete’, ‘Failed’, etc). The following is a list of the parameters posted in the API for SMS delivery notifications:

  1. Recipient - the destination SMS mobile number
  2. ID - Sent SMS ID
  3. Success - True/False
  4. Message- Possible responses to SMS delivery. See SMS Status codes.
