Credit card response codes

When making payment to GoFax using a credit or debit card, the following are bank response codes including a detailed explanation of each response.

CARDHOLDERNAME Required
Card Holder Name is a required field and cannot be blank, please enter the Name on your card.
Invalid_CARDNUMBER
The card issuing bank has declined the transaction as the credit card number is incorrectly entered, or does not exist. Check card details and try processing again.
Invalid_CARDEXPIRYMONTH
Expiry Month selected is in the past during the time of transaction.
Invalid_CARDEXPIRYYEAR
Expiry Year selected is in the past during the time of transaction (e.g. 01/20 instead of 01/21).
Expired Card
The card is expired. Please check if correct dates were entered and that there were no mistakes (e.g. 01/20 instead of 01/21).
Function Not Permitted to Cardholder
The card issuing bank has declined the transaction as this credit card cannot be used for this type of transaction. Please use an alternate card or contact your Bank.
Lost Card
The card issuing bank has declined the transaction as the card has been reported lost. Please use an alternate card or contact your bank.
Stolen Card
The card issuer has declined the transaction as the card has been reported stolen. Please use an alternate card or contact your bank.
Do Not Honour
This error is a generic bank response code that has several possible causes. However it does generally indicate a card error, rather than an error with your merchant facility. The error indicates your bank declining the card for an unspecified reason.
Restricted Card, Retain Card
The card issuing bank has declined the transaction as the credit card has some restrictions. Please use an alternate card or contact your bank.
Insufficient Funds
The card issuing bank has declined the transaction as the credit card does not have sufficient funds.  Please use an alternate card or contact your bank.
Refer to Issuer
The card issuing bank has indicated there is a problem with the credentials used in the transaction. Please use an alternate card or contact your bank.
Invalid Transaction
The bank has declined the transaction because of an invalid format or field. This indicates the card details were incorrect. Check card number entered and try again.

Ensure there are no spaces, or special characters (, &, $) in the card number.
Card Issuer Unavailable
The card issuing bank is unable to be contacted to authorise the transaction. Please re-attempt to process the transaction again.

If the problem persists, there may be an issue with the card issuing bank, and the cardholder should contact the bank.
Transaction Approved
The transaction was approved successfully. 

In the event your transaction fails, we recommend you review and update your credit card details within your GoFax account. View updating your credit card. Please check that you have entered all of these details correctly: 
Card Holder Name:
Card Number:
Expiry Date :
CVV/Security Code:

If the above details are correct but your online transaction fails, please refer to the above status codes and contact your bank. 
It is also possible that GoFax has refused your payment because:
  1. You’re using anonymous proxy, proxy-server or VPN to access the internet.  As a fraud prevention method, we do not allow purchases made via anonymous proxy, proxy-server, VPN or Public Networks.
